Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Cu Chi Tunnels – My Tho – Can Tho
Your adventure begins with a prompt pick-up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City at 7am. Buckle up for a scenic drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels, located approximately 60 kilometers away. This underground network played a crucial role during the Vietnam War and is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of the Vietnamese people.
- Cu Chi Tunnels exploration: Upon arrival, you’ll watch a film that provides context about the tunnels’ historical significance. Then, your knowledgeable guide will lead you through this fascinating underground city where you’ll learn about the handmade weapons and traps used by the Viet Cong.
- Taste local snacks: After exploring the tunnels, enjoy a traditional snack of steamed tapioca served with hot tea, a favourite among locals.
- Rice paper workshop: Visit a local rice paper workshop to see how this essential ingredient is made, giving you insight into daily life in rural Vietnam.
Following your time at Cu Chi, we’ll continue our journey to My Tho, which takes about 2.5 hours.
- Lunch in My Tho: Upon arrival in My Tho, board a boat that will take you to a local restaurant for lunch. Savor delicious local dishes while enjoying views of the Mekong River.
- Island exploration: After lunch, embark on a boat trip to explore small islands dotted throughout the Mekong Delta. Here, you can indulge in tropical fruits while listening to traditional South Vietnamese folk songs performed by local artists.
- Bee farm visit: Visit a small bee farm where you can interact with pythons and sample honey tea along with local confectionery treats.
- Rowing boat ride: Experience a serene rowing boat ride through narrow canals lined with lush green water palms, allowing you to soak in the natural beauty of the region.
After an exciting day filled with exploration and discovery, we’ll continue our journey to Can Tho for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Can Tho & Cai Rang Floating Market – Ho Chi Minh City
Your second day begins early as your tour guide and private car will pick you up at 6am from your hotel lobby. Prepare for an exhilarating morning at one of Vietnam’s most famous floating markets.
- Cai Rang Floating Market: Enjoy a short 30-minute journey to Cai Rang Floating Market, one of the oldest water markets in Vietnam that has been thriving for over 1,000 years. Here, you’ll experience vibrant scenes of local traders selling fresh produce directly from their boats.
- Breakfast on the boat: Savor a local breakfast consisting of banh mi or noodle soup paired with coffee while enjoying the bustling atmosphere around you. Taste fresh pineapple fruits as you float along.
- Cycling adventure: After exploring the market, head to a nearby garden where you can take an optional bicycle ride through charming villages. Discover Mangrove Les – a former revolutionary base over 150 years old – while immersing yourself in the tranquil countryside.
- Return journey: We’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring light Vietnamese fare before we begin our return trip to Ho Chi Minh City.
You’ll arrive back in Ho Chi Minh City around 5pm to 5:30pm, concluding your enriching two-day adventure.
